Group Meeting Information And Meeting Structure

You Are Not Alone

Group discussions focused on mental health are important for reducing the stigma, fostering a sense of community and providing a platform for learning and support. These discussions can help individuals feel less alone, learn new coping strategies, and improve their emotional well-being.

Openly discussing mental health in a group setting helps to normalize the conversations and reduce the stigma associated with mental health.

Individuals in group therapy often find comfort in connecting with others who share similar experiences, making them feel less isolated and more understood.

Group therapy creates a sense of community, where members can offer and receive support from peers who can relate to their struggles.

Observing others who are further along in their mental health journey can inspire hope and motivate individuals to continue working towards their own mental health stability.

Meeting Structure

1- Good evening everyone. This is a regular meeting of the MHA (Mental Health Anonymous) group. There are no dues or fees. This membership is self-supporting through our own contributions.

2- Let us open the meeting with the Serenity Prayer: (Higher Power)

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

3- MHA is a fellowship of individuals who share their experience, strength and hope with each other so that they may find ways of managing their mental health while supporting those who still struggle.

4- Ask any new members to introduce themselves by their first name only. Then go around the meeting space asking every individual to introduce themselves, first name only.

5- Open the meeting for individual sharing, as it relates to your own mental health. This can be a positive share or a share that relates to a personal struggle. Every individual will have the option to accept feedback from the group or request that no feedback be provided.

6- Close the meeting to open sharing and thank all who have shared. The Chairperson will have prepared a selected quote to read to the group. Example Quote :  " Pain travels through families until someone is ready to feel it. For many of us, our generational curse is avoidance. We come from people who just act like it didn't happen. But Pain demands to be felt. And somewhere along the line, a child will be born whose charge it is to feel it all. These are your shamans, your priests and priestesses, your healers. you call them mental health patients and label their power as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and the like. But these are the ones who are born with the gift of feeling. And as we all know, you can't heal the pain that you refuse to feel. "

7- The Chairperson will make any announcements about group business and accounts. This may include events, information on literature, additional support. The Chairperson will ask if there are any additional announcements the group would like to bring forth.

8- Close the meeting with the Serenity Prayer:- (Higher Power)

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
